What makes this deal stand out is the no-trade-in requirement. Most free phone carrier promotions ask you to hand over an existing device. T-Mobile is currently not requiring that on the base iPhone 17 when you switch on Experience Beyond. If you have been holding on to an old phone, you keep it. Apple TV+ is $9.99. Factoring those in, the effective plan cost for heavy streamers is meaningfully lower than the $100 sticker suggests.

The upfront costs that do not disappear

iPhone 17 Pro: same carrier, different rules

If you want the iPhone 17 Pro instead, the deal structure shifts. T-Mobile offers up to $1,100 off the Pro on Experience Beyond, which effectively makes it free at its $1,099 starting price.

This version requires a trade-in of an eligible device in any condition. Eligible models include iPhones from the 13 series onward and a range of Samsung Galaxy flagships from the S22 Ultra forward.

The condition requirement is intentionally loose. T-Mobile is accepting cracked screens and physically damaged devices, so an old phone sitting in a drawer with a shattered display still qualifies. That is worth knowing if you have been holding on to a broken trade-in.

For the iPhone Air, the same structure applies: up to $1,100 off on Experience Beyond with a trade-in, or $1,000 off with no trade-in when switching on the same plan.

The iPhone 17e option if you want more plan flexibility

T-Mobile also offers the iPhone 17e free when switching to most unlimited plans, not just Experience Beyond. The 17e carries a $599.99 retail price and runs on Apple’s A19 chip with a 6.1-inch OLED display.

If the $100 per month Experience Beyond commitment feels steep, the 17e deal gives you a current-generation iPhone without locking you into the top-tier plan.

That trade-off is worth thinking about. The core iOS security and privacy features carry over fully on any iPhone model and any T-Mobile plan, since T-Mobile runs standard unlocked iOS with no carrier-specific software restrictions.

Whether the two-year math actually works in your favor

If you were already planning to stay on a premium unlimited plan, the deal is hard to argue against. Getting the iPhone 17 256GB at no additional device cost while paying $100 per month for a plan that bundles Netflix, Hulu, and Apple TV+ is straightforward value, especially when those streaming costs would otherwise sit on top of a separate plan bill.

If you are currently on a cheaper prepaid setup and this deal requires stepping up to $100 per month, the numbers look different. Over 24 months that plan costs $2,400 in service fees before taxes.
