Every OEM ships its devices with a stock keyboard app. While it’s enough to carry out the basic keyboard functionalities, but this is where things come to a standstill. There’s not much to talk about when it comes to additional features such as themes, different font styles, support for foreign languages, or the ability to keep your passwords and credentials secure.

Fortunately, there exists an option to easily change the default keyboard app on your Android device. And in this guide, we will show you how to do just that. But before proceeding ahead, there is an important point that you need to keep in mind.

When you use a third-party keyboard app, then it might be able to read all the information that you enter. These include the likes of password, OTP, card number, and among others. Therefore make sure you install a keyboard app that comes from a trustworthy developer. On that note, let’s get started.

How to Switch Keyboards on Android?

  1. To begin with, head over to Play Store and download the keyboard app of your choice.
  2. Now head over to the Settings page on your Android device.
  3. Next up, go to System followed by Languages & input.
  4. After that, go to the Virtual keyboard section.

  5. Tap on Manage Keyboards and you shall now get a list of all the installed keyboard apps, both the active as well as inactive ones.
  6. Enable the toggle next to the keyboard app that you have just downloaded.
  7. You will now get a prompt, tap on OK.

  8. With this, you have enabled the newly installed keyboard. However, it is yet to be your active one. So to make this change, invoke the keyboard app by going to any text field.
  9. Then tap on the keyboard icon situated at the bottom right.
  10. You will now get a list of all the active keyboard apps, select the one that you had just installed, and it will now be treated as your default keyboard app.
