New streaming releases this week (July 13-18)

New streaming releases this week bring a wave of finales. Heartstopper closes out its run, Descendants goes darker than any prior entry, and Silo continues its split timeline season on a Friday schedule. Netflix also adds a live action anime tentpole and a full season of unscripted chaos in Vegas.

TL;DR: Heartstopper Forever closes the series on Netflix July 17, and Descendants: Wicked Wonderland streams on Disney+ the same day after its Disney Channel premiere. Silo season 3 episode 3 lands July 17 on Apple TV. Golden Kamuy: The Abashiri Prison Raid streams globally on Netflix July 13, and The Ultimatum season 4 drops eight episodes July 15. Nothing major this week is free.

GenreComing of age, romance
CastKit Connor, Joe Locke, William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown

This is the feature length ending to a series that ran three seasons, not a fourth season in disguise. Kit Connor and Joe Locke return as Nick and Charlie, now facing the reality of Nick heading to university while Charlie stays behind at Truham.

Alice Oseman wrote the script herself, adapting the sixth and final graphic novel volume alongside the Nick and Charlie novella. Wash Westmoreland takes over directing duties from series veteran Euros Lyn, and the film wrapped production almost exactly a year before release, according to Netflix Tudum.

Editor’s note: Ending a beloved series with a movie instead of a rushed final season is the right call more often than fandoms want to admit. Oseman writing it herself is the reason to trust this lands the ending rather than just closing the book.

The fifth film in the Descendants franchise picks up right after the time travel fallout of The Rise of Red. Cinderella is safe and the Queen of Hearts has reformed, but that fix created a new villain in Maddox Hatter.

Red and Chloe have to team up with a new set of legacy characters, including Red’s sister Pink and Captain Hook’s daughter Hazel, to save Wonderland. Awkwafina joins the cast as Chessy the Cat, a notable new addition to a franchise that has leaned harder into ensemble casts with each sequel.

Editor’s note: The Descendants franchise has never been subtle about consequences chasing its heroes, but turning a side character into this movie’s antagonist is a sharper choice than the marketing lets on. Kids who grew up on the original trilogy will notice how much darker the stakes have gotten.

Golden Kamuy: The Abashiri Prison Raid on Netflix, July 13

DateJuly 13, 2026
Release formatMovie (streaming premiere, previously theatrical)
Also availableJapanese theatrical run concluded March 2026
Box officeApproximately $2.3 million (Japan opening weekend)
Rotten TomatoesNot yet scored on the aggregator
Paid / FreePaid (Netflix from $8.99/month with ads)
GenreLive action, period action
CastKento Yamazaki, Anna Yamada, Gordon Maeda

This is the second live action film in the Golden Kamuy franchise, adapting the Abashiri Prison arc where every faction chasing the hidden Ainu gold finally converges in one location. It opened in Japanese theaters in March at third place nationally before making its way to Netflix four months later.

Kento Yamazaki returns as Sugimoto, the war veteran nicknamed Immortal, alongside Anna Yamada as Asirpa, whose knowledge of Ainu language and survival skills anchors the story. The franchise has drawn attention for its detailed, consultant-supervised depiction of Ainu culture and language rather than treating it as set dressing.

Editor’s note: If you only know Golden Kamuy from the anime, the live action version trades some of the source material’s comedic whiplash for a tighter, more grounded action film. This is not a jumping on point without the first film, so watch that one first if the premise is new to you.

Silo season 3, episode 3 on Apple TV, July 17

DetailInfo
PlatformApple TV
DateJuly 17, 2026
Release formatWeekly
EpisodesEpisode 3 of 10 this week (season not yet complete)
Paid / FreePaid (Apple TV from $12.99/month, 7 day free trial)
GenreSci-fi, dystopian drama
CastRebecca Ferguson, Common, Tim Robbins, Chinaza Uche

Silo’s third season premiered July 3 and continues its Friday rollout through a September 4 finale. This week’s episode continues the split timeline structure, cutting between Juliette’s memory loss in the present day silo and the pre-collapse Washington D.C. storyline introduced at the end of season 2.

Rebecca Ferguson returns as Juliette, now recovering from the incinerator trap that closed out last season, while Jessica Henwick and Ashley Zukerman anchor the historical timeline as journalist Helen Drew and Congressman Daniel Keene. Apple renewed the show for a fourth and final season ahead of this one airing.

Editor’s note: The split timeline is a real gamble this season, since the pre-collapse material has to earn its place next to the claustrophobic tension the show built its reputation on. Three episodes in is early, but the two timelines are starting to rhyme in ways that suggest the show knows what it is doing.

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On (Season 4) on Netflix, July 15

DetailInfo
PlatformNetflix
DateJuly 15, 2026
Release formatFull binge (8 episodes), finale and reunion follow July 22
Episodes8 (finale and reunion release separately)
Paid / FreePaid (Netflix from $8.99/month with ads)
GenreUnscripted relationship series
CastNick Lachey, Vanessa Lachey (hosts), six new couples

Six couples head to Las Vegas for the fourth season of Netflix’s trial marriage experiment, hosted again by Nick and Vanessa Lachey. Each couple includes one partner who issued the ultimatum and one who is not yet sure about marriage.

This season features a first for the franchise: a participant gets asked to leave the experience entirely before the finale, according to the trailer. The first eight episodes drop July 15, with the finale and reunion following a week later on July 22.

Editor’s note: The trial marriage format only works when the show is willing to let couples actually fall apart on camera, and the early exit teased in the trailer suggests this season is not holding back. Watch for Casey and David if you want the season’s most obvious will they stay together arc.

Rabbit Hole (Season 1) on Disney+ and Hulu, July 13

DetailInfo
PlatformDisney+ and Hulu
DateJuly 13, 2026
Release formatFull binge (10 episodes)
Episodes10 (season 1)
Paid / FreePaid (Hulu from $9.99/month with ads)
GenreVariety, creator competition
CastTopper Guild, Zhong, ZHC, Josh Peck, Sofie Dossi

Rabbit Hole brings together 36 digital creators with a combined 675 million followers for a half hour variety format built around challenges, collaborations, and comedy sketches. It is produced by pocket.watch, the studio behind several other creator to streaming crossovers.

This premiere tests a specific bet: whether YouTube-native audiences will follow their favorite creators behind a subscription paywall. Earlier attempts, including MrBeast’s Beast Games and the Sidemen’s Netflix series Inside, have shown mixed retention after the launch week novelty fades.

Editor’s note: The 36 person cast is the largest creator ensemble any streamer has tried, which makes this less a show and more a stress test of whether creator fandom actually converts to subscriptions. Worth watching the first two episodes just to see if the format holds up outside a YouTube thumbnail.

What is actually free this week

None of this week’s major premieres sit behind an ad-supported free tier. Heartstopper Forever, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, Golden Kamuy, Silo, and The Ultimatum all require a paid Netflix, Disney+, or Apple TV subscription with no rental or free-tier loophole.

Golden Kamuy’s first live action film, released in 2024, remains on Netflix and is worth watching before the new one if you have not seen it. For genuinely free anime in the meantime, Tubi and Pluto TV carry hundreds of completed series at no cost, though neither carries this week’s new premieres.

Frequently asked questions

Is Heartstopper Forever the actual end of the series?

Yes. Alice Oseman and Netflix confirmed this movie replaces a planned fourth season and closes out Nick and Charlie’s story for good.

Do I need to watch the previous Descendants movies before Wicked Wonderland?

You should at least watch Descendants: The Rise of Red from 2024, since Wicked Wonderland picks up directly from its time travel consequences.

Is Golden Kamuy: The Abashiri Prison Raid a sequel I need context for?

Yes. It follows the first live action Golden Kamuy film from 2024, which is also on Netflix, and continues directly from where that story left off.

Does Silo season 3 release all at once or weekly?

Weekly. One new episode drops every Friday through the season finale on September 4, 2026.

Is The Ultimatum season 4 all episodes at once?

The first eight episodes drop together July 15. The finale and reunion release separately on July 22.

The one to pick if you only have time for one

Heartstopper Forever. Show finales rarely get the elevated, feature length treatment this one did, with Alice Oseman writing the ending herself instead of handing it off. Golden Kamuy and Silo will both still be there next week for a binge, and Descendants is built for family viewing whenever you get to it, but Heartstopper closes a specific chapter that a huge number of viewers have followed since 2022. This is the one that only lands the way it is supposed to if you watch it close to release, before every plot beat gets spoiled across social media.
