Gemini 4 Argon is now available in the Gemini app for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers, Google said in its availability post on October 13, 2026. At launch, the model was limited to the Ultra tier.
That matters because Pro costs $19.99 a month, while Ultra starts at $99.99. If you read the first announcement and wrote Argon off as something you would never pay for, the answer just changed for a lot of people. Free accounts are still left out.
TL;DR: Gemini 4 Argon is rolling out in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search for AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Free users do not get it. The app also adds a chat and tasks toggle, and the Mac app gains a coding interface. Developer pricing doubles after November 30, 2026.
Who gets Gemini 4 Argon now
Google says Pro and Ultra subscribers can use Argon in the Gemini app starting that day. Its updated launch post adds that both plans also get it in AI Mode in Search.
Free accounts are not on the list. Ultra keeps a few extras, including Google Antigravity, according to the same post.
| Where | Who gets Argon |
|---|---|
| Gemini app | AI Pro and AI Ultra |
| AI Mode in Search | AI Pro and AI Ultra |
| Google Antigravity | AI Ultra |
| Gemini API | Paid tier developers |
| Fairwind Program | Vetted cybersecurity defenders |
The price gap between the two plans is the detail that decides who this is really for. Google’s plans page lists AI Pro at $19.99 a month and AI Ultra from $99.99.
What changes in everyday chats
Google describes Argon as answering more directly, hedging less, repeating itself less and avoiding clichés. On longer jobs, it shares its progress more often instead of going quiet until the end.
In practice, that targets the familiar habit of asking a question and getting three paragraphs of caveats before the answer. Whether it holds up across your own prompts is something only a week of use will show. Google’s wording here is a description, not a benchmark.
The new tasks toggle
A new toggle in the main chat window switches between chat and tasks. Google says Gemini can keep working on a task across Google apps when you are away from your computer.
The app also connects to more than 40 apps, including Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe and Shopify, per the availability post. A booking or a shopping list is the kind of job that fits this setup, because it has a clear end point.
Mac app gets a coding interface
Argon brings coding improvements, and Google Antigravity’s agentic coding interface is now in the Gemini macOS app. That lets you move between chatting and coding without switching apps.
The desktop app page says the app needs an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS Sequoia 15.0 or later. Google says the Windows version is getting more features too, but it does not say the coding interface is one of them yet.
What developers should watch on pricing
Google’s API pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens until November 30, 2026. After that, it rises to $4 and $20, and cached input tokens stay 95% off.
Anyone budgeting a project around Argon should price it at the higher rate. Our first Argon report covers the original benchmarks and the safety program.
Is the upgrade worth paying for
For most people the honest answer is to wait and test. If you already pay for AI Pro, you have nothing to buy and can simply try the model.
If you are on the free plan, nothing about this rollout changes what you can use today.
