Apple unveiled the new Apple TV 4K on October 13, 2026, with an A19 chip, three far-field microphones and a new version of Siri built on the next generation of Apple Intelligence. It costs $299 and reaches stores on Friday, November 13, 2026. The detail that matters for most households is that Apple TV 4K Siri AI is also coming to older boxes as a beta, so the new hardware is only half of the upgrade question.
TL;DR: The new Apple TV 4K costs $299 in the US, with pre-orders open now and stores getting it on November 13, 2026. Its big feature is Siri AI, which also arrives as a beta on the 2nd generation Apple TV 4K and later through tvOS 27.2. Siri AI needs an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad in the home, so the box alone does not unlock it.
What the new Apple TV 4K actually changes
Apple says the A19 chip makes the CPU up to 50% faster and the GPU up to 2x faster than the previous generation, according to its newsroom announcement. A new dedicated AV1 decoder is meant to stream more efficiently at lower bandwidth. The design of the box and the Siri Remote stays the same.
The new addition is a set of three far-field microphones. They let you say “Hey Siri” or just “Siri” during playback, with echo cancellation that tries to pick your voice out from whatever is on screen. If you have ever shouted at a remote across a room while a movie played, that is the problem being addressed.

Hardware aside, the more interesting question is what Siri AI does once it is listening.
How Apple TV 4K Siri AI works
Siri AI appears full screen on the TV and can show poster art from the Apple TV app with related searches. Apple’s example is asking which Apple TV shows won at the Emmy Awards this year, and getting a visual answer instead of a list of text results.
You can also ask follow-up questions mid-show. Answers land in a compact overlay, so the episode keeps playing. That is a small design choice with a real consequence: asking who an actor is no longer means pausing and losing the scene.
With a paired iPhone that has Apple Intelligence, Siri AI can use personal context, such as playing a show a contact recommended. It also controls smart home accessories and scenes hands-free. Apple describes the home hub role as covering Wi-Fi, Thread and local processing of HomeKit Secure Video.
Apple says Siri requests can run on-device or in Private Cloud Compute, and that microphone data is handled in Secure Exclaves that Apple itself cannot access. The catch is that all of this has conditions.
What you need before Siri AI works
Siri AI on Apple TV is labeled a beta, and it ships in tvOS 27.2 for the Apple TV 4K 2nd generation or later. At launch it supports English in the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. It is not initially available in the EU.
The owner of the home in the Home app needs an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad on the latest software, with Siri AI switched on in a supported language. Personal context requests need a paired Apple Intelligence device. Our Siri AI device list covers which iPhones qualify.
Some server-side features carry daily usage limits, and Apple says expanded access will cost a fee in the future. Apple has not said what that fee is, so it is worth treating “free for now” as exactly that. Camera features such as video descriptions also depend on an eligible iCloud+ plan, a limit we covered in the Home camera AI plan requirement.
Who should buy the new box and who can wait
If you already own a 2nd generation Apple TV 4K or later, the beta suggests you get the headline Siri feature without spending $299. What you would gain from the new box is the A19 speed, the AV1 decoder and the built-in microphones, which matter most if reaching for the remote is the friction you want gone.
For most people with a recent Apple TV, waiting looks sensible. That is the kind of upgrade decision where the software gets there first and the hardware catches up later.
If you are buying your first Apple TV, the math is different. At $299, you are paying for the full Siri AI experience from day one, as long as an Apple Intelligence iPhone is already in the house.
