Samsung Health Sleep Coaching now needs only three days of sleep data from the past two weeks to get started, according to Samsung’s October 14, 2026 announcement. It used to ask for seven days within a month.
That lower bar matters if you have ever bought a watch, worn it for a few nights and then watched the coaching tab stay locked. Samsung is also adding a new Running Coach tier structure and Strava Routes import in the same update.
TL;DR: Samsung Health Sleep Coaching now starts after three days of data within two weeks instead of seven days within a month. It builds a four to eight week plan from a short survey and works with Galaxy Watch 4 and later, Galaxy Fit3 and later, and Galaxy Ring. Running Coach adds two training levels and Strava Routes import for Galaxy Watch8 and later.
How Samsung Health Sleep Coaching starts now
The new entry point is three nights of tracked sleep within a 7 to 14 day window. After that, you answer a short survey about sleep regularity, interruptions, alcohol and caffeine intake, and how satisfied you feel with your sleep.
The app then assigns a “Sleep Animal” symbol and builds a coaching plan that runs four to eight weeks, based on your goals. Weekly guidance adjusts as your habits shift, using the daily satisfaction ratings you give it.
A faster start only helps if the plan is useful once it arrives, so the next question is what the plan actually asks of you.
What the coaching plan asks you to do
Daily checklists and tips draw on behavioral sleep science. Samsung’s examples include stopping screen use an hour before bed, avoiding late caffeine and stretching outdoors after waking.
Each morning the app sends a short review of the previous night, and those notes feed weekly and final reports. A new Sleep Balance graph, shaped like a pentagon, plots five measures: sleep time, sleep regularity, nighttime awake time, sleep satisfaction and Energy Score.
The pentagon is a small change, but it is a more honest picture than a single sleep score, because one weak corner shows you exactly what to fix.
Which devices and phones can use it
| Feature | App version | Phone | Wearable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleep Coaching | 6.24 or later | Galaxy phone, Android 11 or later | Galaxy Watch 4 and later, Galaxy Fit3 and later, Galaxy Ring |
| Running Coach | 6.30.2 or later | Android 10 or later | Galaxy Watch8 and later |
Sleep Coaching needs a paired Samsung Galaxy phone, so a Pixel owner with a Galaxy Watch will not get it. Energy Score also needs data synced from a Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Ring.
Samsung says Energy Score is for personal reference only and is not intended for medical purposes. Our Galaxy Watch 9 chip and battery coverage and the Galaxy Watch 9 companion app leak show where the next Galaxy Watch is heading.
What changes in Running Coach and when it arrives
Running Coach grows from 10 to 12 training levels, with new ones for intermediate and advanced runners. Plans still start from a 12 minute running test or your past running data.
You can now export workouts into share-ready templates for social platforms, and import Strava Routes for running, trail running and cycling. Strava is unavailable in some markets, including South Korea. Running Coach works only on Galaxy Watch8 and later models.
Samsung says the features arrive progressively through Samsung Health app updates starting in October, and that timing may vary by market and model. So if the Sleep Coaching card is missing today, check for a Samsung Health app update before assuming your watch is unsupported.
Who should bother setting this up
Anyone who wears a Galaxy Watch to bed and has never kept up with the old seven day requirement has the most to gain. A three night start makes the program feel like something you can try on a whim.
Because the plan can run up to eight weeks, it asks for a change in habits rather than a one night fix. The test is the fourth week. If the weekly guidance still feels specific to you by then, the lower threshold did its job.
