The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable, and it asks for a lot: $1,999 to start, a new way of holding an iPhone, and a few trade-offs against the iPhone 18 Pro.
This guide goes through what Apple’s own specs, pricing and service pages say, and what that means for the problems foldables tend to have in general, such as creases, thick folded bodies and costly screen repairs.
Nothing here comes from long-term use, because the phone goes on sale October 23, so treat it as a checklist for deciding before you order.
TL;DR: The iPhone Duo opens to a 7.6-inch screen, weighs 254 g and is 11.3 mm thick when closed, while costing $700 more than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, dropping Face ID and the telephoto camera, and shipping eSIM only with no charger. Apple publishes no fold-cycle rating, so the crease, the inner display and AppleCare+ are the parts to weigh.
iPhone Duo price: $1,999 is only the starting point
In the US, the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB and rises to $2,199, $2,599 and $3,199 for 512GB, 1TB and 2TB, according to Apple’s store page.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299, so the foldable costs $700 more than the Pro Max.
In India, Apple’s MRP is Rs 2,99,900 for 256GB, Rs 3,24,900 for 512GB, Rs 3,74,900 for 1TB and Rs 4,49,900 for 2TB.
Apple also lists $83.29 a month over 24 months in the US, and the Apple Upgrade lease starts from $57.99 a month but leaves you without ownership.

Size and weight: the iPhone Duo is thick when closed
Open, the iPhone Duo is 5.2 mm thin, but closed it is 11.3 mm thick and 84.1 mm wide, according to Apple’s specs page.
That is about 2.5 mm thicker than the 8.75 mm iPhone 18 Pro and about 6 mm wider than the 78.0 mm Pro Max, so pockets and slim cases deserve a thought.
It weighs 254 g open or closed, which is 5 g more than the iPhone 18 Pro Max and 43 g more than the iPhone 18 Pro.
The iPhone Duo crease and inner display
Foldables rarely hide the line where the screen bends, and Apple does not claim the iPhone Duo has none.
It says a nano-texture finish minimizes crease visibility, that adhesive layers glide as the screen folds to reduce stress, and that the inner display is wonderfully flat and smooth.
The inner screen has a polymer cover layer rather than glass, which Apple describes as up to 40 percent stiffer, so it is the part to treat gently despite its scratch-resistant coating.
Apple publishes no fold-cycle rating on its product or press pages, so how the crease ages is still unknown.
Durability and repair costs on the iPhone Duo
The iPhone Duo is IP68 rated, but Apple notes that water and dust resistance are not permanent, can decrease with normal wear, and that liquid damage is not covered by warranty.
The hinge has more than 100 parts and a Grade 5 titanium cover, and Apple says it is designed for smooth, balanced resistance and long-lasting reliability.
In the US, Apple’s AppleCare fee page lists $99 for inner display damage, $29 for outer display and back glass damage, $19 for cover layer-only damage and $99 for other accidental damage.
The page lists these under iPhone without naming the Duo, so confirm the fees when you buy AppleCare+.
Out-of-warranty prices sit in Apple’s repair estimator, and the inner display is the one worth checking before you buy.
The iPhone Duo cameras skip the telephoto
The iPhone Duo has a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultra wide, with up to 2x optical-quality zoom taken from the main sensor and digital zoom up to 10x.
The iPhone 18 Pro adds a dedicated telephoto with up to 8x optical-quality zoom, a variable aperture main camera and LiDAR, plus an 18MP front camera against the Duo’s 12MP outer one.
Inside, the under-display FaceTime camera shoots 1080p and stays hidden when idle, so it is best seen as a video call camera.
Touch ID, iOS 27 and apps on a folding screen
There is no Face ID, so the iPhone Duo unlocks with Touch ID in the side button or with a paired Apple Watch.
iOS 27 adds Split View, two windows of one app and a vertical Dynamic Island for the inner display, and Apple names Netflix, Zoom and Slack as ready, so other apps that have not been updated may use the larger screen poorly.
Siri AI is an English beta at launch, is not initially available in the EU, and some server-side features have daily limits, as our Siri AI device list explains.
Battery and charging: bring your own adapter
The iPhone Duo has a battery on each side of the hinge, rated for up to 24 hours of mixed use, 31 hours of video on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer.
Apple’s EU energy label lists the capacity as 4,883 mAh.
The box holds the phone and a 1 m USB-C cable but no power adapter, and Apple’s 50 percent in about 20 minutes needs a 60W-capable adapter.
eSIM, Handoff and availability
The iPhone Duo is eSIM only worldwide with two active eSIMs, and Apple says carrier support is required, so confirm your carrier offers eSIM before you order.
iPhone Handoff, which lets two iPhones share one number, costs $5 a month on T-Mobile and will cost $10 a month on Verizon, which lists it as coming soon.
Pre-orders opened October 16, and Apple says sales start October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, with 28 more on October 30.
Delivery estimates appear at checkout, and our iPhone Duo preorder timeline tracks the dates.

Who should buy now and who should wait
Buy it if you want a phone that opens into a 7.6-inch screen and you plan to take AppleCare+.
Skip it if telephoto zoom, Face ID or a slim pocket matter more, because the iPhone 18 Pro covers all three for $800 less.
Waiting costs little, since reviews and teardowns will show how the crease and hinge behave outside Apple’s own marketing.
A foldable’s real test is its first few months of everyday use, and nobody has that data yet.
