ChatGPT answers now come with charts, buttons and calculators, even on the free plan

ChatGPT GPT-6 Intelligent UI Rolls Out to Free and Paid Users

OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 with Intelligent UI to ChatGPT on October 7, 2026, and Free and Go users get it starting October 8. According to OpenAI, answers can now mix text with charts, buttons, forms and small working tools instead of arriving as a block of text.

If you have ever asked ChatGPT to split a restaurant bill and then did the math yourself anyway, this is the change aimed at you. The ChatGPT Intelligent UI rollout puts that interface on the free tier too, not just paid plans.

TL;DR: ChatGPT answers can now include interactive charts, calculators, diagrams and games, powered by GPT-6 Sol on paid plans and GPT-6 Luna on Free and Go. Paid plans got it October 7 and Free and Go follow October 8. It only applies to the Chat tab, and the Pro reasoning option does not support it.

What Intelligent UI actually changes in ChatGPT

Intelligent UI lets the model decide whether a question deserves a paragraph, a chart or a tool. OpenAI says it builds answers from text, visuals and interactive elements such as tappable buttons, forms and graphics, and falls back to plain text when that works best.

The examples OpenAI shows are practical ones: a Sunday roast timeline, a road-trip map with stops, a bill splitter, a retirement savings calculator and an interactive explainer for the Monty Hall problem. You build the tool by asking for it in the conversation.

That shift from reading an answer to using one is the real story here. It also raises the question of who gets it first.

Who gets GPT-6 and when

The rollout is staged by plan, and each tier runs a different model. OpenAI’s release notes list the split.

PlanModelRollout starts
PlusGPT-6 SolOctober 7, 2026
ProGPT-6 SolOctober 7, 2026
BusinessGPT-6 SolOctober 7, 2026
EnterpriseGPT-6 SolOctober 7, 2026, depends on workspace admin settings
FreeGPT-6 LunaOctober 8, 2026
GoGPT-6 LunaOctober 8, 2026

Two limits are easy to miss. Intelligent UI works from Instant through Extra High reasoning, but the Pro reasoning option, which uses GPT-6 Astra, does not support it. It also applies only to the Chat tab, so the models behind Work and Codex stay as they were.

ChatGPT has spent the past week stacking features, from virtual try-on shopping to wider access for free users, and this is the biggest interface change of the batch.

Faster answers, with a caveat on the numbers

GPT-6 can start answering while it is still thinking or using tools, then add findings without a second prompt. For web-search questions, OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant begins answering about 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.

That figure comes from OpenAI’s internal evaluations, so treat it as a direction rather than a benchmark you can reproduce. In daily use, the practical effect is less staring at a spinner before anything appears.

Under the hood, OpenAI describes a native component library and a compiler that lets the interface appear progressively as the model generates it. That is why a chart can take shape on screen instead of landing all at once.

What the system card says about safety

The GPT-6 October system card says Sol and Luna replace GPT-5.6 Sol and Luna in ChatGPT for free and paid plans globally. It reports stronger resistance to jailbreak attempts overall, though multi-turn jailbreak robustness is slightly lower than the September versions.

On standard production benchmarks, Luna, the model free users get, regressed on a few content categories. Manual review found the violations borderline and low severity, and for under-18 users both models regressed on age restricted content, sexual content and emotional reliance checks, which an added classifier block partly mitigates.

That is a useful detail for parents and for anyone rolling ChatGPT out to a team, because the model most people will use is the one with more regressions to watch.

What to try first once it reaches your account

Start with something that normally needs a spreadsheet, such as a loan comparison or a trip budget, and ask ChatGPT to build a small calculator for it. If the answer comes back as plain text, that is by design, since the model picks the format.

Free and Go users start getting it October 8, so it may not appear the moment you open the app. Not a dramatic change, but a useful one, and the first real test is whether the tools it builds are ones people keep using after the novelty fades.
