Claude can now read your bank accounts, and the limits Anthropic set matter more than the pitch

Claude Personal Finance Launches With Read-Only Bank Access

Anthropic has started rolling out Claude Personal Finance, a beta that lets you link US bank accounts to Claude through Plaid and ask questions about your own money. Anthropic’s November 5, 2026 announcement says access is read-only and limited to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the US.

That puts balances and up to two years of transactions in front of an assistant you may already use for work, which is a different level of trust from pasting one statement into a chat. The useful questions are what Claude can see, what it cannot do, and how to undo the link.

TL;DR: Claude Personal Finance is a US-only beta for Pro, Max and Ultra plans. You link banks through Plaid, Claude reads balances and transactions, and it cannot move money. Chats in the hub are not used for training, but anyone with a shared chat link can see your figures. You can link up to 16 banks and unlink them whenever you want.

What Claude Personal Finance can see and do

Claude sees the bank name, account name, type, last four digits, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions for the accounts you connect, per Anthropic’s announcement. It cannot “move, manage, or invest your money.”

The prompts Anthropic suggests are ordinary ones, such as “So what’s left before payday?” and “Is that more than usual?” Claude can total spending by category, flag duplicate charges and unexpected fees, work out what an APR has cost you, and build spending charts and due-date calendars.

Account typeWhat Claude reads
Checking and savingsBank and account names, type, last four digits, balances, up to 24 months of transactions
Investment, loan and creditBalances and credit limits only, not holdings, trades, rates or terms

The split comes from Anthropic’s help article, and it explains why Claude will not be much use for questions about your portfolio.

How to set up Claude Personal Finance

Look for “Personal Finance” in the side menu, or under “More” if it is hidden, then select “Get started,” set goals or skip, and choose “Link accounts with Plaid.” Anthropic’s help article says you pick your bank in Plaid, sign in, choose which accounts to share, and finish within 10 minutes.

It works on the web, Claude Desktop, and the iOS and Android apps, but not on Free, Team or Enterprise plans. Rollout is gradual, so the menu entry may not be there yet.

You can link up to 16 banks, and only US banks are supported.

Privacy settings worth checking

Anthropic’s announcement says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models, and Claude “doesn’t ask for or see your bank password.” Once Claude uses your accounts in a chat, the help article says it is designed not to save anything from that chat to memory.

The detail most people will miss is sharing. Anyone with a shared chat link can see the figures from your accounts, and artifacts that use account data stay until you delete them, even if you delete the chat.

The “Connectors” menu in the message box lets you switch Plaid on or off.

Where the beta stops

Claude cannot use linked accounts in scheduled tasks, Cowork tasks or Claude Code, and it may not work in projects, according to the help article. Personal Finance is also not available in Claude Duet, so the proactive agent cannot draw on your accounts.

Data exports do not include the saved dashboard yet. Anthropic also says Claude can make mistakes, so check big numbers against your bank, and ask which transactions support a figure. If you follow how quickly Claude’s features are shifting, our AI model tracker covers the model side.

Who should link an account and who should wait

If you want plain answers about spending and recurring bills, a read-only link is a modest ask, and you can reverse it. If you share chat links often or lean on projects, hold off until the sharing and project behavior is clearer.

To unlink one bank, open the three dot menu in Personal Finance, choose “Manage linked accounts,” then “Unlink.” You cannot unlink single accounts within a bank, and removing the last bank permanently deletes your dashboard, budgets and setup answers. You can also revoke access at my.plaid.com.

Anthropic says bigger money decisions are best handled with licensed professionals, which is a fair reading of a beta that says it can be wrong.
