How Android updates work
Android ships in three layers. A major version, such as Android 17, arrives once a year. Quarterly Platform Releases (QPR) add features between major versions, and a monthly security bulletin lists the fixes that phone makers pick up.
Pixel phones get these first. Other brands, such as Samsung, add their own skin on top and roll updates out later, so your phone can lag behind the dates on this page. Our Pixel update tracker follows the Pixel side of it.
